I'll know I've really made it when ...
Yesterday I was having a discussion with a visitor about all our new plants in the lobby. (It's really amazing the impact these plants have had. And by 'amazing' I mean, 'kinda sad when you think about it'.)

"Are they leased?"

"No, we bought them, but we have a maintenance contract with the company."

"I always thought that if someday, I had a plant service, you know, somebody to come and water all my plants and keep them healthy and put out fresh flowers, if I had that, that's when I'll know I've really made it in life."

And it got me thinking. How will I know I've "made it in life"? How will you? I've heard popstars say it was when they hear their own song on the radio, or businessmen say it's when they can afford the car of their dreams.

I think I'll know I'm a success when I can work from home. I'll know I'm rich beyond my wildest dreams when I can employ an old school butler and housekeeper.

The butler doesn't need to be British, but he must have an accent of some sort. An out of work actor will do fine. He must sniff on a regular basis, in particular at the way I drive my car into the driveway.

The housekeeper doesn't have to be Hispanic, but she must know how to cook REAL Mexican food, and do it from time to time. She doesn't have to pick up my dirty socks off the floor, but she must yell at me from time to time, when I'm bad. Think Rosario from Will and Grace.

So. Tell me yours. When will you know you've made it?

I came from Mexico. We lived in a house with dirty floors, no electricity or plumbing. I feel very much "made" right now! woot woot! :)

Add to that four beautiful kids who actually love me. YEAH, even the teens. How I managed that I have NO idea! Just lucky, I guess!

(that alone is an accomplishment these days, it seems! those crazy teenagers.)

Although... hmmmmm a maid would be nice. One that knows how to make chile rellenos like my mom! Woot woot!

I have GOT to stop saying woot woot. Geezuz. I'm starting to annoy even MYSELF!

Which I actually manage to do VERY often.

That's lovely, Norma. Contentment is so sadly rare.

And feel free to say "woot, woot" here. It's totally allowed.

I will know I made it when my child finishes high school, gets himself into a good college, then gets himself a job and becomes an independant, responsible, and self-respecting member of soceity.

Seriously, there is nothing else I want in life than to know that I have raised a well adjusted, hard working, kind hearted, and strong man, (who will always love his Mama-Hee!)

Once that happens (AND IT WILL!!)I will be golden.

Lets toast to that.

Yay to toasts. I love excuses to drink during working hours.

Also, can I change my answer? I think I'll feel "made" when I get my fifth face lift and tenth botox injection. yup! When I can no longer show emotion because my face is sooooo stretched out beyond recognition.... that's when I'll feel made! :)

And I'd love a gold plated toilet seat. Oh no wait.. one of those fancy ones that shoot water up your butt so you don't have to wipe.

And.. dare I.... ask? What the heck... a pony. Yes YES .. a pony!

I'll know I have made it when I can travel at least once a month and stay at a wonderful hotel or inn - there I'll wander the streets and just take the time to enjoy every step, every face and every breeze.

When I come home it will be to a palace of my own making, filled with trifle things and lovely people and animals. Some place large enough where we can gather and sit outside to talk and gaze at the stars.

I change my answer to Colleen's. So what if it's copying, it's beautiful.

Yeah, I love and covet Colsy's answer too.
In fact, lets have another toast to it!

tee hee. This has been my phrase of the week. I love finding perfectly good excuses to throw it into the conversation.
