The Best Camp I Ever Went To.......
In high school, I was in Key Club. (It's a service and volunteer organization.) All the cool kids were in it, because one year they sent out an anouncement that no one had joined, so if no student joined, then they wouldn't have the club that year. My friend Dave saw an opportunity. He joined, made himself president, and appointed all his friends as officers. Who was going to object? Now as a Key Club officer, you were allowed to leave the school campus for 'meetings'. You were excused from classes for these 'meetings'. So basically, Dave got us all a way to got to long, leisurely lunchs at the mexican food place.
Then it came time for our Key Club camp. As about twenty of us piled out at a campground, there were enough parents around, dropping their kids off, that no one notice what Dave whispered to me, "Dude, [VJ], neither of our chaperones showed. I don't want to alarm the parents dropping their kids off, but we're on our own."
We looked at each other for a few minutes, then I muttered, "Sweet!"
Fortunately none of the parents noticed, and they all drove off and left us, a bunch of 14-17 year olds, alone with our tents and lanterns. We even had a pool. The campground management came around daily, and we claimed "our leader was on a hike" or "in the bathroom." Since this was VERY much against the campground rules, Key Club International rules, the school's rules, and even our parents rules, it's a wonder we pulled it off.
But dude, it was AWESOME.
